2015 - UK Summer Trips & USA Wedding

We travelled to Lincoln for a weekend hosted by Camper UK. The campsite is really a rally field with simple water and toilet
dump facilities. Camper UK had erecetd a couple of very large marquees where they fed and entertained us on the Friday
and Saturday evenings.
We took the twins with us for their first camping experience and they loved it.
Transport was laid on to ferry guests to and from the Camper UK showroom and workshops or into Lincoln city.
Lincoln was buzzing with tourists and shoppers and the girls were intrigued by the street entertainment.

The highlight of the weekend for the twins was when the female singer on the Saturday evening handed them the microphone
while they sang their favourite song from Disney’s film, ‘Frozen’.

George and John Sterbinsky (soon to be father-in-law to Brian) set out from St. Bees in Cumbria to walk the Coast to Coast
path (190 miles) to Robin Hoods Bay in Yorkshire. However, one hour into the walk, disater struck at Fleswick Bay on St.
Bees Head. George slipped on some wet rocks, fell a few feet and cracked two ribs! At first, it seemed that he was just
winded and he carried on walking. The following day he was in considerable pain and had to give up walking at Rosthwaite.
John continued on the next day to Grasmere whilst George visited the Minor Injuries Hospital in Keswick and then took the
bus to Grasmere. On the fourth day the pain was intense and an ambulance was summoned to take George to A+E in
Lancaster with a few doses of morphine administered by the ambulance crew. Two cracked ribs confirmed and severe internal
bruising. Doctor advised that the walk should be abandoned.

Our destination was the campsite at Lee Valley in north London for a few days. We were visiting Desnée’s second cousin Reg,
his sister Pat and his wife Sheila. We also took the opportunity to visit the RAF Museum at Hendon.
The Lee Valley campsite was better than we expected and very busy with foreign tourists visiting London. However, the
general area was all a bit rundown. Campsite recommended if you wish to visit that area.
The RAF museum was quite a surprise. It was much larger than we had expected and you could easily spend a day and a half
to take in all the exhibits. Well worth visiting!!
Of particular interest to us was the section on The Pathfinder Force of WWII. One of Desnée’s relatives was in Pathfinder
Squadron 97 and was lost after a raid on Nurembourg in 1944. He was the pilot of a Lancaster at the age of 22. We knew that
he had been awarded the Distiguished Flying Cross but we did not know why. Desnée was able to find out that information
from the museum archive office.

At the beginning of the month we took the motorhome down to the Great Dorset Steam Fair for a few days. We were
joined on this ocassion by our daughter, Nicci.
As usual, this was a spectacular event with so much to see that you can easily spend two days there and still not see
everything. The weather was a bit cold and cloudy but it did not rain - so that was a bonus!
